Blackcurrant are small purple - black fruits have a pale golden green flesh.

They have an intense, fruity, sharp flavour and are usually eaten cooked with sugar added to counteract the acidity. They are a classic ingredient in Summer Pudding but are lovely in jam, tarts, pies, ice creams and sorbets.
